I always liked the Dock, it was different and had that cool smooth wave animation. However, after acquiring ObjectDock from Stardock - I saw little use for it. I don't even use it much anymore, just those times when a Macker comes over and sees my beougois PC with hapless XP running. I don't need to see their fucking pity plastered across their face! My PC can do anything a Mac does and usually better. I make no apologies for my PC running Gate's Concoction. Well, the Dock is some cool looking eye candy that's for sure. However, using it for your only application launcher, not good. It's not big enough for starters, you would go crazy trying to organize it, if using a PC and ObjectDock, this would certainly be true as you yourself would have to create the links (shortcuts) and set the icons manually, not sure how the Apple Dock works, maybe when installing a program it programatically adds the icon to the dock? I am not a mackie so I wouldn't know offhand. But this article seems quite concise.
